‘Other Brothers’ is a collaborative project that sees the works of Visual Artists, Tala Suailua and Mikaere Raimona, interact in a deep, honest and thought provoking dialogue not only with each other, but with the viewer also.
Utilising the theme of the ‘Other’ these works question contemporary issues of identity, whilst addressing concerns that are present not only in New Zealand, but also on a global level.
The combination of these installation works highlights the role that visual artists and galleries play within society as a whole, asking the viewer to consider with a philosophical mind the world of which we are all an intrinsic part, and the way with which we interact with it and each ‘Other’.
Both artists are recent graduates from Weltec and recently held exhibitions at Toi Poneke and The Film Archive respectively.
